Special Populations

Special populations is the term given when a person has a high risk factor or injury, such as High Blood Pressure (hypertension), is Medically Obese, has an Arthritic Condition or recovering from recent surgery, for example, an Anterior Cruciate Ligament Repair.

They need to follow specific exercise guidelines depending on their medical circumstances. A person with Rheumatoid Arthritus should avoid extreme ranges of exercise movement.  People with High Blood Pressure should not hold their breath or over gip equipment. People who have recently had surgery need to follow an individually designed exercise program that compliments and works with exercises and guidelines previously given from their Physiotherapist.

Extra care, attention and detail is taken when designing a “special populations” exercise program so that the client can enjoy and reap the benefits of exercise without contraindicating their Medical Condition.

Post Rehabilitation of Injuries

Once a patient has been medically signed off by their Specialist, GP or Physiotherapist; a fitness, static and movement based assessment will be arranged.  The assessment will enable us to obtain a greater understanding of the patient’s current fitness level, restrictions in movement and poor postural habits.  Body statistics are taken also eg Blood Pressure, Weight.

Information obtained from the assessment enable us to design an individual Exercise Program suitable for the Client and in every way to correct; achieve and progress in whatever way they desire.
